My Stimulus Check

Attention: open in a new window. E-mail

So where is my stimulus check and when can I expect to receive it? Oh yeah, there won't be a stimulus check for me or for the majority of you that are reading this blog. Why? A large portion of the stimulus money has gone to big business's, specifically over $350 billion in tax payer money has gone to the top 1% of business's.

Here is the link to the article that prompted this question,  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/lloyd-chapman/100-percent-of-stimulus-s_b_170680.html.   At this time I haven't been able to verify this information, however, once I have verified the information through the census bureau I will provide the link to those statistics, but it does open up questions as to the true direction of our country. Now his opinions although very thought provoking don't paint the full picture as satellite, mom and pop companies, in some scenarios exist solely for support of these large conglomerate companies.  So although they may not be directly receiving the funds these small business are indirectly receiving additional business and revenue as a result of the funds.  We are of course assuming that the funds go to stimulate business and weren't paid out to the ex-Merrill Lynch execs (reportedly/allegedly received $4 billion in bonuses weeks prior to the acquisition of Merrill by BofA).  See on going NY Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's investigation of the transaction.

The economy itself is very frail right now and as Warren Buffet so eloquently put it, the economy has "fallen off a cliff."

Things you should be aware of:

Make sure that you save as much as possible.  You never know when your job is in jeaporady and when you may have to live off savings for awhile.  Cash is king, make sure you can get to it to cover your bills.

Don't quit your job if you have one.  Right now, hating your job is tough, but happy to have an income is important. But I have a more exciting job offer than the one that I'm at?  That may be the case and this may be the time you need to move into a different direction, start a new career, or just on to what you believe is a better position in your same line of work at a different company.  The only problem that I have with this is that we are currently in a time frame that companies are laying off workers and the people with the least amount of time with the company are the first to be let go.  I've already had a client that this particular situation happened. Just be careful.
